The World's Most Expensive Perfume

The World’s Most Expensive Perfume

What is the world’s most expensive perfume? Joy by Jean Patou, which includes the extremely expensive ingredients of Bulgarian roses and jasmine, used to be the most expensive perfume. Although still extremely costly and highly regarded, Joy has lost its place at No. 1.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Clive Christian No. 1 is now the most expensive perfume. An English millionaire and furniture-maker, Clive Christian bought the Crown Perfume Company which once made corsets and included Queen Victoria amongst its customers. Clive Christian No. 1 contains very pure and expensive ingredients, including carnation, jasmine and cedar wood. It costs US $2,350.00 for one ounce! Only 1000 bottles of the women’s version and 1000 bottles of the men’s version are released each year.

This is also available in a limited edition in baccarat crystal bottle with a five carat diamond and an eighteen carat gold collar. It costs over $200,000.00. Elton John bought one in the shape of a piano.

Many of the wealthy and famous are hoping that another contender for the world’s most expensive perfume will be reissued. Blended by perfumer, Arthur Burnham, for the fashion house, Gianni Vive Sulman, Parfum VI was named after the Rolls-Royce Phantom Six. Only 173 bottles were ever made at nearly $90,000.00 each.
Customers included Michael Jackson and Mike Tyson.

Made of the purest ingredients, the perfume contained base notes of rose and resin. Burnham studied ancient perfumes to complete his brief, which was to ‘create a fragrance that would be unbelievably special, totally unique and extreme in every regard.’ The scent has been called ‘the most enchanting and irresistible symphony...’

The flacons designed by Pierre Dinard, were made of ruby-crystal, rubies and diamonds. The boxes were made of exotic wood by the Rolls-Royce coach-makers and each had its own ruby and diamond key.

If there is enough demand the perfume will be reissued by The Hadland Group.

Surprising that these perfumes don't allow you to coat yourself in golds and diamonds!

Damn, there's some expensive perfumes there! Timely piece, it was only the other day that I was wondering whether Joy was still the most expensive perfume in the world (you know your life is pretty good when the things plaguing your mind are things like "gee, is Joy still the world most expensive perfume?)
